stop planning. start doing.

You could work really hard at anything. Why not spend it doing something you are really passionate about, that will build something for your own future. What if you spent 8 hours a day working and grinding on your own dream? Imagine what you could do.

In the creative industry, especially in the world of horses and agriculture, it’s not uncommon to work 12+ or 16+ hour days, AND the pay is usually by the day, not by the hour. Why not work that hard on the thing that you really love. The big scary goal you have.

I recently realized that I wasn’t actually pursuing my big scary goal. I had been avoiding it: taking jobs just adjacent to the thing I really wanted to do, so if I failed, it wouldn’t hurt so badly. I have always had a dream of training breakaway horses that were fancy broke enough that you could show them in the cowhorse as well. I went to college to train colts, rodeo, and got an Ag Comm degree. After college I went to work for a cutter, then I worked in media for the NRCHA. Both things were ALMOST the thing I really wanted to do, but I never felt like I was good enough to go work for a cowhorse/rope horse trainer. I always seemed to make an excuse, that “I don’t rope good enough,” or “Rope horse trainers only hire men who are a 6+.”

And I think that I feel very comfortable in the yearning and manifesting stage. My body doesn’t know how it actually feels to actually get the thing that you want. BE the girl you want to be. It’s very uncomfortable! Because what if you get your life dream… and it’s not all you dreamt it to be. That would be crushing. And it seems that subconsciously I’ve been avoiding it. If I never really try and apply myself, if so that if I fail I know that it wasn’t my whole self failing. “I didn’t try that hard anyway.”

To be fair, I think that it ultimately will help me in the long run to be a well rounded person and horsewoman, but I think it’s time to start. If I started actually doing it right now, even if badly–BUT DOING IT: working as hard as I work on things I don’t care about, where will I be in 5 years? Where would I be if I actually tried? If I am successful in my life giving about 75%, what happens if I give 100%?

Where would you be if you actually tried and went after the thing you loved?
